Right! And I mean, at some level they absolutely should be doing this. This might be one way that journalism stays in the public interest. The gatekeeping and pre-packaging is sort of contrary the internet’s ethos about open data so the big leak is sort of a liminal object — the giant object that needs to stay opaque but be made slowly more transparent. There are a lot of questions that aren’t answered. What happens to that data in 20 years, though? Who could gain access? Can I request a query? Who owns leaks? I wonder where this new thing take us.
